mirror/speak

aspen y.

there is a superstition, that if you talk to someone's reflection, not their face, that your souls will switch.

we no longer talk

like we once did before

we now talk through mirrors

where our souls become each others

i lock eyes with you and begin speaking

and take on unbearable pain

you have dealt with loss

and grief

and a selfishness you could never shake away

you look at me and smile

telling me it didn't work

i ask you why

and you say

‘i felt nothing’
