Warning of War

Anonymous

Fingertips trace the outline of her skin

Feels like countless days spent in

Been fantasizing about getting better

But it’s too big of a storm to weather

Lost girl of her mother

Trapped under this plate

Eyeing the face of others

With a low heart rate

Only thoughts are numbers

Running up to her room

Making them frown once more

Might be a warning of war

Stabling herself in the mirror again

Convinced that it’s all just fate

Been flushing daydreams now and then

Head’s spinning until she sleeps at eight

Lost girl of her father

Born to run away

Made another lover

With a toxic fate

Stumbling little soldier

Carved out to the bone

Giving no clear closure

Might be a warning of war

Reminding herself it’s stoppable

Although it feels so impossible

Better days ahead

If she stops playing dead

Reminding herself it’s edible

Although it seems unacceptable

Better fix this mess

To make progress

Lost friend of her sister

Somehow in the same lane

Avoiding their worried eyes

With the biggest shame

Tape rewinds for tomorrow

And so does she

Making them frown once more

Might be a warning of war

It’s a warning of war.
